French for immigration
French for immigration to Canada
French is an official language of Canada, and immigration programs reward it. Here is where French can count in your journey, and how we prepare you for it.
Pathways
Where French can count
Express Entry
NCLC 7 in all four skills makes you eligible for French-language rounds and adds bonus CRS points.
Learn moreProvincial programs
Several provinces run streams or draws that favour French-speaking candidates. Requirements vary by province and change often.
Canadian citizenship
Adults 18–54 must show speaking and listening at CLB/NCLC 4 or higher. TEF Canada and TCF Canada results are accepted.
Jobs in Canada
Bilingual roles in federal services, banking, healthcare and customer support often pay a premium for French.
Learn moreWhich test should you take?
IRCC accepts both TEF Canada and TCF Canada for French. Both report results on the same NCLC scale and are valid for two years for immigration purposes. The difference is in the format and scoring of each section.

A plan that matches your status
Your timeline depends on your situation: the expiry date of your permit, your CRS score without French, and your current level. In your free level check we look at all three, then propose a realistic study plan.
We teach French, not immigration law. For advice on your application, speak to a licensed immigration consultant (RCIC) or lawyer, and check the latest rules on canada.ca.
